Lewis Hamilton topped the opening practice session of the 2017 Formula One season at Albert Park. The Mercedes driver registered a best lap of 1:24.220s on the Pirelli ultrasoft tyres to gap teammate Valtteri Bottas by over half-a-second.

Roll stylish and consistent together and you will have a potent – and incredibly rare – mixture at your fingertips. Until Silverstone, GP3 Series points leader Alex Lynn had been the stylish one, taking two Race One victories, but not finishing either of the Race Two events. Jimmy Eriksson, meanwhile, had been passively consistent with three podiums and a 6th place finish.

Much has been made over the last few days about the titanic crash between Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez on the last lap of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix. Both drivers took to social media to blame the other, but according to the stewards Perez was deemed the guilty party and handed a grid penalty for the next race in Austria. With the dust now beginning to settle, Williams must face the additional question – should Massa have been that position at all?
