Conditions at the DTM finale at Hockenheimring we’re hardly the most representative of early October in the region. Previous visits to the season ending event tended to be on the dryer side in recent years, flicking between late Autumn wind and warmth to early Winter grey and cool. For the regulars, the wet weather was … Continue reading “Waiting for the Rain Dance”
Rene Rast made the most of his fast Audi RS5 and the mild conditions at Hockenheim to take his 17th DTM race win. BMW’s Marco took 2nd place in his M4, while Mike Rockenfeller continued his strong second half of the season to secure the final podium spot for Audi. From pole position, Rast built … Continue reading “DTM: Rast wins first Class One ‘joint race’”
Rene Rast reclaimed the DTM crown in stellar fashion at the Nürburgring this weekend, as rivals Nico Müller and Marco Wittmann stumbled.
The TT Circuit Assen is a new one for me. Known primarily as a motorcycle track, one is met by a large sign on the way to the paddock declaring Assen to the be Cathedral of Speed. It is a warranted designation. On a motorbike at full pelt, I can imagine that this is might be something of a daunting venue, but for DTM and its catalogue of high downforce, high speed – in comparison to Moto GP – tanks, the circuit is somewhat less daunting, but still challenging.

Jamie Green grabbed his first with Audi since his move to the marque in 2013, with an inch perfect performance in Race One at the Hockenheimring. Former DTM racer Roberto Merhi has been announced as the second driver with the Manor Marussia F1 team today.
When Roberto Merhi was cut loose from the Mercedes DTM team at the end of the 2013 season, the Spaniard was left facing a bleak future. That he took three victories on the way to 3rd in the championship upon his return to single-seaters displays just how close motorsport came to losing an excellent talent.
Formula Renault 3.5 title challenger Roberto Merhi has revealed that he was close to retiring from racing altogether this year.
It is safe to say that it had been something of a barren couple of years for Roberto Merhi, but in these opening six weekends of FR3.5, Merhi has done much to rebuild his confidence and with it his reputation.
Mercedes DTM racer Pascal Wehrlein has been involved in an accident during a promotional event this week that has left two people injured.

Organisers of the Auto GP World Series finally unveiled a partial calendar for the 2014 season this week.
They are probably used to this already, even at Formula 3 level. The glaring lights, the cameras, questions that come from the series media representative -- and then us, the rest of the media, keyboard tappers and scribblers alike.
