Firstly, I must admit that I have never really followed NASCAR or any of its affiliated series’. For many reasons, it is a form of racing that has never really sold well outside of the United States, especially in European territories where much of the love is garnered towards single-seaters.
Recently, though, much attention has been heaped on Danica Patrick’s upcoming début in stock cars, as she took part in an ARCA race yesterday at Daytona Speedway – with many already suggesting that she will move from the Indy Racing League to NASCAR permanently within the next two or three years and while Patrick is a very good driver, she has never quite showcased herself as a champion (yet).

Following the ARCA event – won by veteran racer Bobby Gerhart – my compliments must go to Patrick for an absolutely fantastic save during yesterday evening’s race. Former Renault Formula 1 driver, Nelson Piquet Jr got a bit of wobble when in the midst of a three-way sandwich and nudged Patrick into a spin. Patrick got the wheels straightened mid-spin and directed her JR Motorsports car down onto apron and into the pit lane area. The Wisconsin native went on to finish in 6th place, whereas Piquet Jr was classified second from bottom.
