If the heavy heat still bore down on the Hockenheim paddock, then at least delight and relief cleared the air. For Jann Mardenborough, this was all about the latter. His performances during this year’s Toyota Racing Series showed that he had the capacity to win, but taking that to a higher level like GP3 was always going to be tricky.

Until Silverstone, GP3 Series points leader Alex Lynn had been the stylish one, taking two Race One victories, but not finishing either of the Race Two events. Jimmy Eriksson, meanwhile, had been passively consistent with three podiums and a 6th place finish.

Nick Cassidy rose to the top of the TRS championship after the weekend’s third round at Taupo; however it was Alex Lynn who claimed both of the weekend’s pole position’s and feature races wins, while Bruno Bonifacio took the Sunday morning sprint event.
