Felipe Nasr registered his first pole of the 2011 British Formula 3 season.
The Brazilian set his quickest your of 1:27.960 – a mere five-thousandths ahead of Fortec’s Lucas Foresti. Both the quickest times came late in the session.
Nasr and Foresti also share the front row for the Saturday race, albeit in opposite positions, with the Fortec pilot assuming the pole for the first race.
Menasheh Idafar secured 3rd on the grid alongside Rupert Svendsen-Cook in his Carlin-Volkswagen. Svendsen-Cook brought out one of the sessions two red flags, thanks to a mid-session off, but the Briton had done enough to pip Jazeman Jaafar (5th, Carlin) and William Buller (Fortec) on the time sheets.
Buller’s time would have given him a 6th place start; however that will become 16th, following a penalty thanks to his Monza antics.
Next up are Harry Tincknell (Fortec) and Kevin Magnussen (Carlin); however Magnussen missed much of the session following an early qualifying accident having set the early pace. Scott Pye (Double R) and Carlos Huertas (Carlin) recorded the 9th and 10th quickest times respectively ahead of Pietro Fantin, Pipo Derani and Jack Harvey.
Hitech’s Riki Christodoulou had a tough time in the session, with a fastest time some 0.945 shy of Nasr; however the Briton had quite a gap over the Sino Vision duo of Hywel Lloyd and Adderly Fong.
Fahmi Ilyas took 17th in his Mercedes-powered Fortec machine, with Yann Cunha the last of the International Class runners.
Bart Hylkema was the leading Rookie Class pilot – the T-Sport pilot had a 4.7 second advantage over his sole class rival, Kotaru Sakurai, although the Japanese youngster lost his timing unit after only two laps.
