Free Practice 3
Rain, rain, rain. As the morning practice got under way, rivers of water ran across parts of the circuit, ensuring that next to no running was completed.
Jaime Alguersuari had an off exited the chicane, just prior to the start of his first timed lap.
Eventually he and Timo Glock were the only drivers to register a time – the rest of the field content with completing opening laps, before pulling in. Indeed Glock did spin when on a run at Spoon corner; the red and black Virgin floated away from his control under the severe wet conditions.
Qualifying
Due to intense rain from the morning and through the afternoon, qualifying for the 2010 Japanese Grand Prix was postponed until 10am tomorrow morning (local time).
After qualifying was cancelled, it was announced that Lewis Hamilton had to have a gearbox changed in his McLaren, which will result in a five-place grid penalty for tomorrow’s rearranged session.
The weather forecast tells that the rain may continue until about three hours prior to the session, meaning even that session may be a wet one.
