Former Formula One designer Sergio Rinland has joined Auto GP’s Puma 3 M-Sport team for the 2014 season.
The Argentine designer is to take charge of all of the technical operations with the Spanish squad, who will be entering the single-seater series for the first time this year.
According to initial reports, Rinland is to liaise with Operations Director Jaume Pintanel and the team’s track engineers, as they plan to effort a development programme.
Rinland is best known for his work in Formula One, having joined Brabham as chief designer in 1987, following time with Williams and Ralt. In 1991, he formed the design company Astauto, where he would pen the GR02 for the short-lived Fondmetal team.
Following a spell in CART and the old German Touring Car Series, Rinland returned to Formula One in the mid-90s to work with Benetton, prior to moving to Sauber and, later, Arrows.
Since the collapse of Arrows, Rinland has spread his time across the IRL (now IndyCar), GP2 and the Le Mans Series and was also the Engineering Director of Epsilon Euskadi prior to their absorption by EPIC Racing.
